POSITION VACANCY: COLLEGE-WIDE HONORS PROGRAM PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANT
(ONE-SEMESTER TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT BEGINNING ON OR ABOUT JAN. 17, 2005) 

This position primarily assists the College Honors Coordinator with the maintenance,
development and promotion of the Honors Program, a high-profile program that
represents the best of Suffolk County Community College. The individual hired for this
position must be comfortable with and enjoy a wide range of academic and recruitment
activity that enhances the image of honors.

Specific duties include assisting the College Honors Coordinator with the following:
·       Developing and maintaining the Honors Program admission system. Interpretation
and understanding of SAT, ACT and AP exam patterns.
·       Developing and maintaining the Honors Program advisement system.
·       Implementing advisement, admissions and bursar functions for Honors classes
offered at local high schools.
·       Designing and maintaining an Honors Program Web page.
·       Representing the Honors Program at college fairs and high school college nights.
·       Serving as a guest speaker at high school assemblies and classes.
·       Developing and nurturing contacts with Honors Programs at four-year institutions.
·       Coordinating Honors conferences, luncheons and special seminars.
·       Coordinating the Honors Convocation.
·       Promoting and implementing the Honors Program/Suffolk Community College
Foundation Scholar-in-Residence Program.
·       Coordinating and administering the Suffolk Community College Foundation and J.
Robert Fisher Honors Scholarships.
·       Serving on the College-wide Honors Committee.
·       Promoting the Honors Program and its intellectual and pedagogical benefits for
faculty.
·       Conscientiously completing all other assignments that may be assigned by the
College Coordinator or College Executive Dean.

                Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and two
years’ experience in an academic advisement or student activities setting; excellent oral
and written communication skills; and the willingness to travel to off- campus locations.
Experience in the operation of an honors program is preferred.
