COLLEGE DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND ALUMNI AFFAIRS
This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Vice President for Institutional
Advancement and Executive Director of the Suffolk Community College Foundation.
Duties and responsibilities include the following:
1. Develop and implement the alumni relations plan and budget.
2. Lead the organizational development of the alumni and the retirees' associations.
3. Develop a schedule of planned opportunities for educating alumni and retirees regarding
the current activities of the college.
4. Create a calendar of social activities that enables alumni and retirees to reconnect
with each other and re-engage with the college.
5. Develop a plan that will help cultivate alumni and retiree relationships in a
methodical manner.
6. Develop policies and procedures for the annual fund and alumni/retiree programs.
Oversee the annual fund, including annual giving programs for alumni, faculty/staff,
retirees, students and their families.
7. Manage alumni recognition events and programs, including special events,
"friend-raisers" and reunions. Secure and manage volunteers as needed.
8. Oversee maintenance, report generation and analysis of alumni, annual giving, event,
donor, prospect and constituent databases.
9. Work with the development team to implement a comprehensive development program
incorporating both capital and annual fund-raising. Meet an annually established
fund-raising goal.
10. Assist with cultivation, solicitation and stewardship services to top prospects.
11. Oversee and implement the creation and preparation of solicitation materials
for the annual fund, Alumni Association membership, donor recognition programs and
events, and prospect cultivation.
12. Coordinate communications to alumni and annual donors through newsletters and other
modes of communication.
13. Monitor alumni and development presence on the college Web site. Initiate updates and
enhancements as needed.
14. Develop and manage a system for electronic messages/e-mail messages to alumni.
15. Develop a periodic questionnaire to alumni to be used as a resource for identifying
opportunities, planning events and activities, and updating the database.
16. Plan, develop and implement new and continuing programs, special events and
fund-raising campaigns to increase both alumni association membership and revenue raised
for the college.
17. Coordinate the alumni scholarship process.
18. Acknowledge all donations made by alumni and retirees.
19. Supervise a part-time college aide and/or other support resources.
20. Manage other foundation or Alumni Association-related assignments as directed by the
Executive Director of the SCC Foundation.
Minimum qualifications: a bachelor's degree is preferred, as are five years of experience
in alumni relations and/or fund-raising, preferably in an academic setting; proven success
in volunteer management, experience in organizing and executing major events, and
experience in developing and executing fund-raising campaigns; proficiency in all
Microsoft Office applications; experience with Raisers Edge database a plus.
The successful applicant will be a highly organized professional with excellent written
and verbal communication, interpersonal and administrative skills. The individual will
also be able to initiate and implement programs designed to engage new donors and will
have responsibility for cultivating and soliciting a range of gifts. Candidates must be
willing and able to travel, be detail oriented, able to successfully manage multiple
priorities, be willing to work flexible hours, and be able to work well with a diverse
constituency.
